Separated by two miles, daughter finds father through Facebook

Posted: Updated:
MONTICELLO, Minn. (KMSP) -

It took a Monticello woman 23 years of searching but through social media, she finally found her birth father. Stefanie Faber and her father Matt Lindberg met for the first time a year ago. Stefanie's mother had a brief relationship with Matt when she was 19 but never told him she was pregnant. Only knowing his name, Stefanie started looking for her father and found him on Facebook.

Both were excited about the possibilities but wanted to be sure so they both did separate paternity tests. The results were a perfect match.

"You just go into it with no expectations," Stefanie said. "That's what I had. The most I wanted was to find history and that's it. I ended up getting a heck of a lot."

What makes this story more remarkable is that the two live just two miles apart.

"I'm just very privileged she found me and we're building this relationship together," Matthew said.

Matthew said he isn't focusing on what he missed and in December, he will walk his daughter down the aisle at her wedding.

"I'm not only going to get married and have that special day, but I also get to have that giving away from a dad that I always wanted," Stefanie said.
