ATLANTA (AP) - The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch covering much of the state.

Forecasters say a flood watch is in effect from 8 p.m. Sunday and is expected to expire late Monday night. The flood watch includes most parts of north, middle and western Georgia.

On Monday morning, the National Weather Service issued a flood warning for Nancy Creek near Buckhead, Big Creek in Alpharetta and North Fork Peachtree Creek near Atlanta.

The most recent warnings will be active until Monday afternoon. The NWS forecast predicts that the creek will rise above flood stage by this morning and continue to rise to near 12 feet by late this morning. The creek will fall below flood stage by late this morning.

Meteorologists say rainfall is expected to grow heavier overnight in some areas and that 2 to 3 inches of rainfall is possible in some regions. Forecasters say the runoff could cause significant water level rises in creeks and rivers, especially in flood prone areas.
