Young Girl's Smart Actions Stops Alleged Kidnappers

Posted: Updated:

Two men allegedly attempted to kidnap a 6-year-old girl in Parkland, Washington, in broad daylight, but thanks to her smart actions, she was able to alert her mother.

After jumping on her friend's trampoline across the street, Savanna Norman began crossing the road towards her home.

"I looked both ways and there was no one coming. But then I went half way across the street and two guys came out of nowhere," Savanna Norman said, "They grabbed me."

"Run ... and kick ... and punch," Savanna explained.

"What's the number one thing you did yesterday that got everybody's attention around the whole neighborhood?" her mother, Amy Norman asked.

"I kicked him," Savanna replied, "I screamed loud."

Savanna says her mother taught her about "stranger danger."

"My heart was pounding and my heart is still," Amy said.

Savanna's friend Raquelle Pittenger watched the incident unfold from just steps away.

"It made feel scared and terrible," Raquelle said.

"I know what happened yesterday was very scary for all of us," Amy explained.

Police say the main suspect is, Jakeel Rashon Mason, who lives only a few blocks from the Norman's house. According to police, he has been booked into the Pierce County Jail and faces charges of unlawful imprisonment.
