Marion Co. woman arrested for shooting and killing her neighbor's cat
The Marion County Sheriff's Office says Sherry Wilemon, 66, of Anthony, was arrested and booked into the Marion County Jail at 10:45 p.m., Monday for shooting and killing a neighbor's cat with a pellet rifle.
A witness said Wilemon shot the cat twice and left the animal to die in a driveway.
The witness told investigators Wilemon "appeared to be hiding behind a tree" during the shooting.
Officials say Wilemon's son buried the cat in the backyard. Wilemon said cats had been getting into her trash. She said upon seeing this cat, she fired the gun as a way to scare off the cat.
"Due to the excessive suffering and the cruel death that the cat endured, the investigator placed Wilemon under arrest for aggravated animal cruelty and transported her to the Marion County Jail," said Judge Cochran, Marion County Public Information Officer.
