Lakewood Blueclaws Stadium Preps

Posted: Updated:
Lakewood, New Jersey (My9NJ) - Roll out those lazy hazy crazy days of summer because baseball is back! However, for the Lakewood Blueclaws the game never really went away. While the home opener is tonight, General Manager Brandon Marano says that the staff’s been working since the final out of last season to get ready for this year.

“When our season ends in September we’re already in the process of selling season tickets and sponsorships for the following seasons. That happens over the entire winter but it’s an actual planning process that takes place for everything we see in this ballpark from concessions to sponsorships to ballpark operations,” he explained.

While Marano describes himself as a ‘worrier’, he’s sure things will be just fine come tonight’s first pitch.

Now, how about the field itself? Well that’s the responsibility of head groundskeeper Mike Morvay.

“I try to stay busy all winter and get all my painting stuff done but there’s always things that get changed around here. I gotta paint all the luxury suites which I have about one or two left just to go back and review and touch up,” he said.

Painting is just one of the items on the list. Morvay’s crew also dumps tons of stone into the bed of shrubs just over the centerfield wall to add to the ambience of the stadium. He also keeps a close eye on the contractor who levels and measures the playing surface to mandated major league standards.

While the park looks good in the daylight, there is nothing like seeing it shine under the lights at night.

The BlueClaws take on Hagerstown in the first of a seven-game home-stand. First pitch is at 6:35PM.

    15-foot snake in Lake Hopatcong

The lake is called Lake Hopatcong but some would call it Lake "Hopat-conda"! Recently, there was a fifteen-foot anaconda spotted in the lake by local resident Tony Colantonio. According to Colantonio, the snake was actually harassing him while he was swimming in the lake so he proceeded to sprint out with no harm done."It was straight across, right where the boat is but a little further back. And I just got out of the water and just took off like a bandit!" He said.

The crisis in Israel continues to grow as the Israeli’s defend themselves against Hamas terrorist groups. Yesterday a slew of politicians and hundreds of New Jersey residents showed up to a rally in the Garden State to help support Israel as the conflict with Palestinian terror group Hamas gets even worse.
