A woman threw a shoe, nearly missing former Secretary of State Hilary Clinton who was speaking in Las Vegas.

Las Vegas Metro Police identified her as 36 year-old Alison Michelle Ernest of Phoenix.

Clinton had just taken the stage as a keynote speaker at the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas when the shoe was hurled onto the stage.

At first there was confusion over what happened.  "Was that a bat... somebody throwing something at me? Is that part of Cirque de Soleil," said Hilary Clinton.

Cameras turned and captured a woman wearing a platinum blonde wig, walking away from the stage with her hands in the air after throwing a shoe at Clinton.

Las Vegas Metro Police release paperwork that says Ernst bypassed security, walked up to the stage, and threw a shoe she had stashed in her purse onto the stage.

The shoe did not hit Clinton, and she took the whole thing in stride.

"Thank goodness she didn't play softball like I did," said Clinton.

Ernst has been released from jail, and formal charges are pending. FOX 10 tried to contact her several times Friday, but we were unable to reach her.

A court date has been scheduled in June back in Las Vegas for Ernst.
