Community Holds Anti Violence Rally After 11 Year Old Was Shot

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

A 16-year-old has been arrested for the shooting of an 11-year-old in North Philadelphia on April 6th.

The 16 year old will be charged as an adult and police are also looking for that teen's brother.

Temple and his brother were shooting at someone on 1500 N Gratz Street when one of the bullets struck the victim.

Near the shooting scene now, community members rally to end the violence.

"If we can't protect our children, then we need to pack up and go home. This is a call for action for us adults," stated State Representative W. Curtis.

State Representative W. Curtis calls on Philadelphia Police to work with the neighborhood correctional facility, Temple University Police, and PHA to better protect the young people in the neighborhood. He says there's a role for parents too.

He continues, "I think we need to increase our speaking out. We have to increase the expression of our outrage. Because some of these young people think it's okay to do what they're doing."

Community members continue their push, while the victim continues to be treated. We are told that he had surgery today his mother by his bed side.
