Titusville father convicted of starving, torturing 12-year-old son

Posted: Updated:

A Brevard County father who confessed to starving his son was sentenced Friday.

Michael Marshall of Titusville was convicted of abusing his 12-year-old son over the course of a year.

He received 30 years in prison.

Last month, Marshall's 50-year-old girlfriend, Sharon Glass, was sentenced to 40 years in prison for masterminding the abuse of Marshall's 12-year-old son.

Marshall's mother, Juanita Wright, told the judge the torture of her grandson was not all her son's fault.

"My son reminds me of a puppet on a string, and Sharon is the one controlling him," Wright said.

Glass and Marshall confessed they locked him in a bathroom, gave him little food over the period of a year and zip-tied him to a bed on two occasions.

Marshall told the judge it was all Glass' idea.

"I know I was manipulated by a woman in the worst way possible. You can run the house because she was smarter than me," Marshall said.

During cross examination, Marshall refused to take any responsibility for being the one who physically carried out the torture of his son.

The judge took notice and gave him the maximum sentence agreed to in a plea deal: 30 years behind bars.

"You tortured your children, but worse you emotionally destroyed them," Brevard County Circuit Court Judge David Dugan said.
