ATLANTA, Ga. -

An Atlanta firefighter has been killed in New Orleans after being hit by a car. Officials said Sergeant Frank Guinn was riding his bicycle with his brother-in-law and a friend when they were hit.

Guinn was training for a triathlon. His brother-in-law remains in critical condition.

In a statement, Fire Chief Kelvin Cochran said, "Sergeant Guinn's brothers and sisters in Atlanta Fire Rescue are devastated at this news. He was a dedicated professional devoted to his family. As a department, we will wrap our collective arms around his wife Kim, and his beautiful girls."

Sergeant Guinn was a 9-year veteran of the department.
