Crash closes lanes on State Road 44

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -

A New Smyrna Beach man suffered serious injuries this morning after crashing his Suzuki pickup truck into the rear of a CMC Steel Fabricators flatbed tractor trailer.

Boran Jocic, 37 was traveling east on SR44 and crashed into the rear the flatbed that was slowing to make a U-turn. Jocic was transported to Halifax Medical Center by ambulance under a trauma alert and remains in critical condition.  The tractor trailer driver Steve Fitzgerald, 58 of Green Cove Springs, was not injured.

The flatbed truck was disabled in the crash resulting in the closure of eastbound State Road 44 for over 6 hours, while the load was transferred to another truck.

The investigation is ongoing and being conducted by the New Smyrna Beach Police Department.
