PORT ORANGE, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -

Kids Can Fish Too is reeling after more than 200 fishing rods and reels that were to be donated to children were stolen. John Baller runs the program.

"Most of the rods and reels that were stolen were received from a grant through Fish Florida."

They were stolen from the back of a trailer in a Port Orange park that backs up to the intracoastal. John Baller says the program is for any child between the ages of 6 and 12 that wants to learn to fish.

"This Kids Can Fish Too program was started to teach kids about fishing. We try to educate them in safety awareness and we teach them and we really stress conservation and how important it is."

Now the group says they will still try and put on the clinic that is scheduled for next month. John Baller says the program is perfect for families to get some quality time together.

"The kids are just thrilled when the get the rod. The best look is when they catch their first fish."

Anyone with information about the thefts should contact the Port Orange Police Department.
