SARASOTA (FOX 13) -

Sheriff's deputies in Sarasota have arrested and charged a 38-year-old man with murder.

The sheriff's office accuses Ed Rutherford of killing 45-year-old David Alessandrini inside his home in the 2100 block of Oak Terrace on Monday.

After it happened, deputies say Rutherford actually called Alessandrini's wife to tell her he had found him dead in their home.

But the wife says she was just up the road at the time of the call and saw Rutherford speed away from the location.

Deputies tracked Rutherford down and arrested him at his parents' home. The sheriff's office said they recovered evidence of the crime.

Rutherford is charged with premeditated murder. He's being held in the Sarasota County jail without bond.
