Florida Man Accused Of Setting His Dog On Fire

Posted: Updated:

A Florida man is facing animal cruelty charges after his dog was set on fire and left to die, but people living in the suspect's neighborhood say police have the wrong man.

1-year-old Hope is in intensive care. She wears a blue and red compression bandage to keep the gauze in place, and she gets laser therapy to help her heal.

"I seen the dog everyday," said neighbor Perry Morrison.

Perry Morrison lives across Harris road in Arcadia, where Hope was found almost burned to death 3-weeks ago. Police have just charged 66-year-old Larry Wallace, the dog's owner, with animal cruelty and arson.

Neighbors say the Florida man would never do such a thing.

However, investigators say a neighbor saw Wallace do it outside his shed. According to authorities, he doused Hope in kerosene and flicked a cigarette at her burning her eyes and skin.

"I still say Larry Wallace didn't burn that dog," said Wallace's in-law, Johnnie Daley.

Daley says she recently spoke with Wallace and that detectives have the wrong man.

"He said when he came out the door the dog was on fire. He was trying to put the dog out. He said some kids did it," said Daley.

"I know he didn't do it," said Wallace's wife.

Veterinarians call Hope a fighter who didn't deserve to be tortured.
