SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - U.S. Customs and Border Patrol officials say more than $1 million in counterfeit soccer merchandise destined for metro Atlanta has been seized in Savannah.

Customs and Border Patrol spokesman Steve Sapp said in a statement Thursday that merchandise being shipped from China was arrived in coastal Georgia in mid-March.

Sapp says the container was carrying 390 cartons of soccer t-shirts, socks, shorts and other merchandise that was destined for Chamblee, Ga. - about 12 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta. Sapp says the merchandise carried the labels of the Arsenal, Barcelona, Chelsea and the Real Madrid football clubs, among others.

Sapp says officials held the container and asked the importer for trademark verification documents, which it couldn't provide for the merchandise. The identities of the shipper and receiver haven't been disclosed.
