The iconic Cocoa Beach Pier could soon have a new owner. The pier is up for sale, and FOX 35 has learned that a yet to be named timeshare company has submitted a contract to purchase it.
The pier was originally built in 1972, but it requires constant maintenance to protect it from the pounding ocean surf and the corrosive salt filled air. City Commissioner Skip Williams says he's hopeful that the new owners will make improvements to the historic tourist destination.
"You know, if they are going to do renovations, that would be a great thing to keep the pier going," he said.
The pier is currently home to five bars and four restaurants. Employees have been told about the possible sale.
