GILFORD, N.H. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- The only occupant of a small plane was not seriously injured after it crashed into Lake Winnipesaukee Tuesday afternoon.

A Cessna 206 plane went into the water near Diamond Island at around 12:30 p.m., The pilot, the plane's only occupant, made a distress call prior to the plane going down, according to Alton, N.H. Police Chief Ryan Heath. When firefighters and EMS responded, the plane was partially submerged, and had sunk into the water as the afternoon went on.

Emergency workers took the pilot, whose name has not been released, to nearby Glendale Marine before transporting him to a local hospital. He did not suffer any life-threatening injuries, Heath said.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident, according to a statement a spokesperson released. Heath said authorities still did not know whether any mechanical malfunctions occurred.
