Healthy dog food

Posted: Updated:
We all want the best for our pets, but healthy and organic pet food can be expensive! So why not make a healthy custom meal for your furry family member at home?

Lucky Dog Cuisine's Dr. Janice Elenbaas showed us how. She started by making her own organic dog food as a hobby and it has developed into a business that ships across the country. Here is one of her recipes you can make at home.

6 lbs stewing beef
3 lbs russet potatoes
3 medium zucchini
1 lb whole carrots
1 lb fresh green beans
1 acorn squash
20 oz canned crushed tomatoes
6 oz tomato paste
15 oz canned pumpkin
24 oz yogurt
4 oz beef broth
2 Tbs basil and oregano

Cut the beef into one-inch cubes. Cook the potatoes with olive oil and combine them with the meat, all the fresh vegetables, beef broth and canned tomatoes and tomato paste. You do not have to wash or peel the vegetables, except for the squash. Just put them in the food processor and cook in a large roasting pan. Once cooked, combine with the pumpkin, yogurt and seasoning.

The recipe should make enough food for a 20 pound dog for a month. For more information, visit www.luckydogcuisine.com.
