Heart 2 Heart, a transitional home organization was denied the ability to buy a home in Shelby this week. Organizers say its because they were classified as a group home, which isn't their mission at all.

They say a group home is typically for teens who have behavior issues. Their mission is to help people who have already made the choice to be sober. Tracy Duncan was a meth addict for 26 years and Heart2Heart turned her life around. She now has a job, a license and a car. She also regained custody of her son. She says it was hard to hear people say bad things about a transitional home.

She says it's hard to hear people say bad things about the home.

" It was difficult to hear what was being said about the caliber of people living in the house. We're not like that. We're normal family people," she said.

Duncan said worried neighbors at the meeting said they would be afraid for their children to walk to school.

" It was a shock to what I've been doing the last two years," she said. "I worked really hard the last to get where I am today."

Joan Bridges works for the organization and was also disappointed in the community reaction, especially because Heart 2 Heart and the Shelby Rescue Mission offered a walk through of the home and to answer questions. Only three neighbors showed up. After they did, Bridges said they were all supportive. Bridges said the Mission will pray for a new space.

My Fox Carolinas reached out to the neighbors but no one called back.We spoke to Mayor Stan Anthony and he said it was a tough decision and he wants to help find a suitable place for a transitional home.
