Detroiter stands by her home, refuses to leave despite rat infestation

DETROIT (WJBK) - An 88-year-old woman refuses to leave the place she has called home in Detroit since 1958 even though it's infested with rats.

The animals started invading Maddie McFolley's home this winter. They chewed through walls, cement and even the wires in her stove.

Her family tells FOX 2's Erika Erickson they blame the vacant home next door. The home next door to McFolley's is on the city's demolition list, but wasn't expected to be demolished until this summer.

Erickson contacted the city Thursday, and was told the process to tear down the home would be expedited to next month.

An expert pest control worker also visited McFolley's home Thursday evening, free of charge, and treated several entry points. He said he was willing to return.
