A Lake County woman is one of the top blood donors in the world! Mary Lory has donated 125 gallons of blood over the past 30 years.
That is about 1,000 blood donations. It would fill up your car's gas tank more than ten times or fill almost two bathtubs.
Lory said after she started donating in the late 70's, she realized how important it is. She said it is "Safe, simple and saves lives."
She gives every couple weeks and even worked for a blood bank at one point. She said working there helped her realize the need even more.
Pat Michaels with OneBlood.org said people like Lory are so important because their platelets go directly to cancer patients. Within five days, he said, those platelets are used to help patients undergoing chemotherapy. He said just 45 minutes can really impact someone's life.
