COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) - A Georgia man's 80 hours spent grilling meats has earned him a world record for the longest barbecue marathon.
Jan Greeff of Columbus shattered the previous barbecuing world record of 62 hours and six minutes Sunday. The 29-year-old native of South African was handed a certificate by Guinness World Records adjudicator Philip Robertson, making his flame-broiled feat official.
The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reports Greeff cooked 1,000 hot dogs, 200 pieces of corn, 104 pieces of chicken, 558 hamburgers and 526 sausages during the more than three days he spent grilling under a white tent as two witnesses watched his every move. He was given five minute breaks every hour.
All that food didn't go to waste. Greeff gave away free food to bystanders. Leftovers went to local charities.
