How do you know when you’ve had enough water?

ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) - Some people are taking water drinking to the extreme –- drinking three liters of water a day.

Celebrities claim the “Extreme Water Trend” is the secret to their beauty.

Registered dietician Kristina Larue says what we think is extreme is actually recommended for women.

How do you know when you’ve had enough?

Larue says it’s recommended for women to drink 90 ounces, which is about three liters, and for men to drink 120 ounces.

Coffee and tea counts toward that total, Larue says.

It would be extreme to drink a gallon an hour.

Your water intake should leave your urine clear to a light lemonade color, according to Larue.

Most of the reports of water poisoning, or hyponatremia, happen during extreme water drinking contests.

For people who don’t like drinking water, coffee, tea and water enhancers can help them take in fluids. Eating fruits and vegetables can also help.
