Experts recommend drinking eight ounces of water a day. But some celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow and Jennifer Lopez are taking that to the extreme, drinking three liters of water a day. They say the extreme water trend is a beauty secret for weight loss and great skin.
Registered Dietitian Kristina Larue explained how the trend works. She said "extreme" water drinking is actually what doctors recommend. Women are advised to drink 90 ounces a day, which is three liters, and men are advised to drink 120 ounces a day.
Larue recommends measuring how much you drink each day to see if you meet the standard. Larue said all liquids count, including soup, coffee, soda and even the water from fruit.
The reason drinking a lot of water can help you lose weight is because we often think we are hungry when we are really just thirsty. Larue said it also fills you up so you eat less.
If you have a hard time drinking as much water as you should, Larue suggests drinking unsweetened ice tea, coffee or eating more fruit.
