ST. PAUL, Minn. (KMSP) -

In February, she was hospitalized for 9 days after she was rescued from a fire in the basement of a St. Paul home. On Monday, the 9-year-old girl got to meet and thank those who pulled her to safety.

Shy but grateful, Neveah Sellers showed up at the fire station after school with a home-made sign that reads, "My Hero."

"Thank you for saving my life," she said.

While several firefighters were singled out for their roles in her rescue, the department said in reality, it was a team effort.

"Few things can match the horror of waking up to find yourself surrounded by the smoke and flames of a house fire," St. Paul Fire Chief Tim Butler said.

More than two months after the fire broke out near a sleeping area, Sellers is almost fully healed.

"I'm very thankful to have her," Ashley Sellers, Neveah's mother, said. "She's my only baby and I'm very blessed that she's here today, and I'm very thankful for the people that saved her."

The St. Paul Fire Department honored those involved it the rescue on Feb. 17, and firefighters from Station 7 were the first on the scene.

"It was smoky and they said there was somebody trapped, so we had to get down there and find her," John Wolfsberger recalled.

When Wolfsberger found Neveah Sellers, she was unconscious and wasn't breathing. She spent 9 days in the hospital, but despite a few scars and nightmares, she will recover. For the firefighters who hadn't seen her since that fateful day, that news is welcome.

"That's when you have a sense of relief," Wolfsberger said. "Until then, you're concerned for their health, so it's nice to see somebody make a good recovery."
