Changes to DMVs Across Charlotte Start May 1st

Charlotte can count on more DMV – so that means you have one more place to get your license.

Today, Governor Pat McCrory spoke at the facility in Huntersville and talked about a plan to reform the state’s DMV operations.

“I went off Arrowwood. I was trying to get my license switched from IL – it took about 5 hrs,” said Anthony Guzzonato.

Guzzonato tried his luck at several DMVs and spent hours trying to get a license.

“I got a new motorcycle – got all my stuff switched over, new title which took about 2 hours,” said Guzzonato.

But I came here to get my permit and that took another 45 minutes,” said Guzzonato.

Today, he took a test at the Brookshire location but didn’t pass the test quite yet.

“I have to come back tomorrow – I was confused on the words and signs. I failed,” said Guzzonato.

Guzzonato and other drivers will soon see changes at local DMVs to reduce wait times including more cameras, a greeter and longer operating hours.

“We promised to bring a customer service mentality to NC government and this is the beginning of the process,” said Governor McCrory.

Other plans include online renewals and eliminating testing for people who’ve moved to the state and already have a license.
