Special Olympics President Praises Chasing New Jersey’s Dedication To The Games

Posted: Updated:
Trenton, New Jersey (My9NJ) - Anticipation is high for the Special Olympics which are coming to New Jersey this summer. President and Senior Manager of Special Olympics New Jersey Marc Edenzon talked about what this means for the Garden State and for the tremendous athletes who will be competing this year.

“The 2014 USA Games is going to include over 3,500 athletes from around the country. We’re expecting 70-80,000 people. We won the bid from Boston and we’re excited about not just conducting the event, we’re more excited about what’s going to happen after to the culture of New Jersey. What it’s going to mean to communities and schools throughout the state. What it’s going to mean to our athletes and their opportunities to be included, not just on the playing field, but in their communities,” he said.

While many people know about the Special Olympics, not everyone gets the chance to actually grasp the significance of such an important event. This year Governor Christie will play a very prestigious role.

“The governor accepted the position of honorary chair, we have a number of celebrities throughout the state, we have Coach Flood from Rutgers who’s going to be bringing his players down. The potential for these individuals to bring attention to the event and to help us reach out to more athletes, that’s gonna be huge. Not just for our movement, but for every single individual who has a disability in the state,” Edenzon explained.

He went on to applaud Chasing New Jersey’s dedication to bringing this important event to the public by not only covering the summer games, but for showcasing important events happening throughout the Garden State leading up to the big day!

“I think that’s incredible. I think the fact that this station, that Chasing New Jersey is going to be following our athletes and follow our volunteers and follow our family members is going to be the core for getting that message out to communities around the state. So you will play a huge role in changing the culture that we’re going to find in communities accepting our athletes,” Edenzon praised.
