Yuma fire chief stepping down after decade

Posted: Updated:

YUMA, Ariz. (AP) - The Yuma Fire Department is losing its chief.

Officials announced Friday that Chief Jack McArthur is stepping down after 10 years with the department.

His departure will go into effect May 8.

While officials say McArthur is retiring, he has accepted the role of fire department chief in the northern California city of Vallejo.

City Administrator Greg Wilkinson says officials wish him well and that he brought the department to its highest level of service.

The city plans to conduct a search for a replacement outside and within the department.

McArthur will become the new Vallejo fire chief May 13.
