Fallen heroes honored at St. Jude Memorial March

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

The annual St. Jude Memorial March to honor fallen officers took place early Sunday morning.

The Chicago Police Department marched to honor officers killed while serving the city.

CPD Gold Star families, those who have lost officers in the line of duty, marched alongside. Some carried mementos of their loved ones.

Every year, the St. Jude Memorial March travels down Solidarity Drive near Soldier Field to make sure the families know their loved ones will never be forgotten.

“We need to always remember that we are blessed for being here and we need to always remember that you are always going to be a part of us,” Superintendent Garry McCarthy said Sunday.

Names of the officers killed within the past year echoed through the city streets – a salute to comrades, friends and loved ones taken, but never forgotten.

The St. Jude Memorial March is in its 82nd year. Officials say 520 police officers have been killed in the line of duty in the history of the Chicago Police Department.
