WJBK Fox 2 - Historically the winter of 2013-2014 was one of the coldest, snowiest winters on record.  The polar vortex had much to do with it and the question is how will the changing position of the jet stream affect our summer weather?

Play the video in the player as Fox 2's Rich Luterman takes a look back at winter and looks forward to what's expected to happen this summer.

Here's a couple of things to keep in mind: The 947.7 inches of snow is an all-time record.  The extra snow means higher lake levels and that's good for shipping, fishing and recreation.  The extra snow could have created a flood hazard, but the gradual spring warm-up created a slower melt, so Michigan dodged a bullet there.

Ice on the great lakes in May means a cooling lake effect into summer.  Lower temperatures on average this year are possible.

Severe weather?  The chances remain high in May, June and July, like most years.
