LAKE MARY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
You may be leaving the nail salon with more than just gel nails.
You could be leaving with skin cancer.
A study shows it could take as few as 24 salon visits to reach the point where UV light triggers cancer.
So how can you protect yourself and still have great nails? Jeany Perez with Unity Nails and Skin has the answers.
Use an OPI LED light lamp that has a time sensor, it’s a 2-minute process versus a 45-minute UV light process.
You’re more relaxed, you’re not as worried, and you’re in there for 3-4 minutes. From start to finish, it’s about 12 minutes to get your manicure done.
Only use the lamp for two minutes total.
You can use an SPF lotion on your hands to further protect them from damage.
You want to make sure your salon is “gel-certified.” It’s important to know your product. Find a company that has a gel product with a matching lacquer designed to apply over your nails so you can extend the time between nail salon visits.
