SALINE, Mich. (WJBK) - Michigan State Police say a 21-year-old from Saline was killed in a car crash on Sunday, May 4.

The two-car crash occurred in Freedom Township on Parker Road, just south of Scio-Church Road.

Police say Garrett Roe, 36, was driving a 2013 Ford F-150 when he became distracted, crossed the centerline and struck a 2007 Ford Fusion being driven by Chelsey Northrup.

Troopers are investigating the crash but say alcohol and cellular phone use are suspected factors.

Roe suffered non life-threatening injuries.

Police say a trooper suffered a broken ankle while getting first-aid supplies in an attempt to revive Northrup, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her family tells FOX 2's Erika Erickson her boyfriend was driving a separate car, following her, and called 911 when he came upon the accident scene.

Northrup was about to begin the nursing program at Eastern Michigan University. Her family says she will still help save lives as all of her organs are being donated.

Northrup's funeral is planned for Saturday, May 10, at Nie Funeral Home in Ann Arbor. A viewing will be held from 12 - 3 p.m. with a memorial service from 3 - 4 p.m.
