ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
A man was shot in the face and had his car stolen and torched during a carjacking in Orange County early Wednesday morning.
Tevin Wood, 22, is in stable condition after being shot with a rifle. Deputies said the three armed men who are responsible for the crime are still on the run.
"I had to wake up to something like this,” one neighbor said as she pointed to the crime scene tape. “It's a shame for us living here to have to wake up to something like this."
It was around 5 a.m. when Orange County deputies responded to the shooting at the Millennia Apartments.
"I’m not sure if it was by gunpoint, but they forced him into his vehicle. He drives a couple of blocks, and then a gunshot is heard,” said the Orange County Sheriff Spokesman Jeff Williamson.
"My mother heard the gunshot and she heard the guy yelling for his life, 'Help me! Help me!' When she heard it, she came to my room and got me,” said another neighbor.
Following the shooting, deputies said the suspects dumped the victim's car, a white BMW, next to a vacant home in the 4600 block of Conley Street. It's about five miles north of Wood's apartment complex. The car was barely recognizable. The flames also damaged the house. Luckily, no one was inside at the time.
Deputies are not saying if Wood knew the suspects, considered to be armed and dangerous. Descriptions of those men have not yet been released. If you have any knowledge about this case, call Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS (8477).
