Job search mistakes

Posted: Updated:
Good news on the job front! A new report shows Florida leads the nation for new job creation.

If you are looking for a new job or career, there are a few things you need to know in this new era of job hunting. Kavaliro Staffing Agency President Mark Moore shared four common job search mistakes.

1) Limiting your search
Moore said by only applying to specific job titles or looking at nearby companies, you might miss out on a great opportunity. If you are in need of a job, do not be afraid to step back and expand your search.

2) Too broad of a search
At the same time, applying for every job a company has available or too wide of a variety of jobs can rule you out as an expert in your field. Instead, narrow it down to jobs for which you are qualified and have experience.

3) No social presence
Moore said often before he even looks at someone's resume he goes to their LinkedIn page. He said employers like to see recommendations from previous employers and connections within your professional field on social media.

4) Only search on job boards
While job boards can be helpful resources, Moore said not to forget your next job might come from networking. He also said not to rule out staffing companies.
