Mayor: Crimes on public transportation down

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - Chicago's mayor Rahm Emanuel and the CTA president say hundreds of CTA trains are now providing safer rides.

Security cameras have been installed in more than 800 rail cars. Mayor Emanuel and CTA President Forrest Claypool made the announcement Wednesday morning.

Emanuel and Claypool also released new transit crime numbers Wednesday. They say since the start of the new year, the number of crimes on public transportation has dropped.

City officials are crediting the change in crime to a more aggressive strategy by the Chicago Police Department and the CTA.
