Dover AFB Lockdown Lifted After Suspicious Person Report

Dover Air Force Base now says a lockdown prompted by a report of a suspicious individual has been lifted about four hours after all personnel were instructed to shelter in place.

"As of 2:40 pm the base is no longer on lockdown. We appreciate your patience and apologies for the inconvenience," the 436th Airlift Wing tweeted Thursday afternoon.

No additional details were immediately released.

Base officials said news release issued just before noon that the suspicious person was reported near Building 706 at approximately 11 a.m., and the lockdown was implemented as a "precautionary measure."

"The safety of our people is our top priority," Col. Randy Huiss, 436th Airlift Wing vice wing commander was quoted as saying in the release. "We take this report very seriously and are taking the necessary precautions to investigate this matter."

The base says more information will be released as it becomes available.
