ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
UCF fans know it as "the catch."
Blake Bortles to J.J Whorton; a special play from a golden arm.
A play that started Bortles on the road to national football stardom and a path possibly to the top of the NFL draft.
"Gonna be a great night for UCF, Blake Bortles and his family," said UCF Head Football Coach George O’Leary.
Coach O’Leary says he has little doubt about Bortles' professional future.
"Wherever he ends up I think he's gonna have a great career."
Coach says Bortles’ best football quality I s his selflessness.
"They either have a 'we' mentality or a 'me' mentality and he's a guy that has a 'we' mentality,"
O’Leary did not venture a guess which team needs Bortles the most but he says he knows what kind of team Bortles needs as he breaks in.
"Whoever drafts him I hope they have a running game. I think as a young quarterback that's what you want. You want a running game."
"There's no doubt Blake Bortles was the star of the team UCF put on this field this past year. But he was not the only good player in UCF’s backfield. As a matter of fact they also had a running back who was really good named Storm Johnson."
"Running backs usually aren't a high priority early in the draft because they feel like they can get some a little bit later but I think he'll end up being drafted," said O’Leary.
Bortles however is as close to a sure high draft pick as possible.
"Blake will be fine. He's gonna be a great pro."
He certainly was a great Knight!
Bortles finds out where his football career continues Thursday night in the NFL draft.
There is an official Blake Bortles draft watch party at the Oviedo Ale House on Mitchell Hammock Road from 6:00pm- 10:00pm.
