House With A Heart Helps Unwanted And Aging Pets

Posted: Updated:
Gaithersburg, MD- Every dog has his day, and some Maryland pet lovers are making sure to make their last days comfortable and enjoyable.

The "House with a Heart'' in Gaithersburg, Maryland serves as a sort of a hospice for pets.

The 55 caregivers take in unwanted or aging pets that are living out their last days

They make sure their 31 residents get their pills, baths, walks and have a little fun.

"They're all special I am sure like people who have children, you know you love all your kids, but maybe somebody is just a little, just touched your heart, a little special,'' Director of House with Heart Pet Sanctuary Sher Polvinale said.

Polvinale says that it’s very hard to lose one of the residents, but she has to remember that "House with a Heart" has done a really good thing, and fulfilled their mission when the animals cross over.

The average age of the dogs is 14.

There’s also a cat that's a whopping 18 years old.
