DeLand crash involving school bus shuts down SR 44
DELAND, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
State Road 44 was shut down following a crash just west of DeLand, involving a car, a semi-trailer truck, and a school bus.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash near the intersection with Paradise Drive. Troopers say the truck was traveling eastbound on SR 44, when it rear-ended the car. The truck ended up on the side of the road, on its side. The car was then pushed into the path of a school bus, which was traveling westbound on SR 44.
We're told the driver of the car is in stable condition at a hospital. School officials confirm that 14 Woodward Elementary students were on the bus when the crash occurred. Two of those students, along with the bus driver, received minor injuries. The two students were taken to the hospital. The driver of the tractor trailer was also transported.
Parents showed up in a panic to pick up their children.
"I was terrified! What mother wouldn't be, you know? I'm still shaky," said Jennifer Yarian.
