6-year-old raises money for the Ocoee Police Department

Most kids want toys for their birthday, but Fox 35 met one kindergartner who's on a mission to make his city a better place.

Noah isn't your average 6-year-old. Instead of presents, Noah asked his family and friends for donations for the Ocoee Police Department. His mother made a donation box, and Noah spent weeks asking relatives, church members, and local businesses for cash, explaining that more than birthday presents, he wanted to help his community.

Noah raised $1,650 for the department’s “Explorer’s Program,” which teaches kids about what police officers do.

"He would look at me with his little freckle face and big eyes and say, 'No mommy, I don't want presents for my birthday, I just want to raise money. I get toys at Christmas," said Noah’s mom Cheryl King.

Last year, he did the same thing for the Ocoee Fire Department, pulling in more than $1,200.

"I just like to help our community, because I've learned about people that keep us safe at school, so I chose to raise money for them because they help us," Noah told Fox 35.

Unusual for a 6-year-old; but that's just Noah, Cheryl said, “It teaches us, humbles us, it takes my breath away a lot. Just to see him want to give. He has a heart of gold and just wants to help everybody."

Next year his birthday wish is to make an even bigger donation to Ocoee Hospital.
