Winter Park endorses Lee Rd. extension; final decision rests with FDOT
WINTER PARK, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
Winter Park leaders have endorsed a proposal to extend Lee Road to the east, across U.S. Highway 17-92 near the Winter Park Village. The road currently ends at Highway 17-92.
City officials say the extension would provide better access to a Whole Foods store and retail plaza being planned at the busy intersection. The plan extends Lee Road as a two-lane road past the 17-92 intersection. It would then turn south and end at Webster Avenue.
Supporters say the plan will ease traffic congestion, but opponents say it will bring a flood of traffic to neighborhoods near Webster Avenue.
State transportation officials will have the final say on the Lee Road extension plan, since both Lee Road and Highway 17-92 are state roads.
