WASHINGTON (AP) - Sen. Marco Rubio says younger workers should face higher retirement ages but all Americans could open Congress' retirement accounts.
Rubio, a first-term Republican from Florida weighing a presidential bid in 2016, in a speech for delivery Tuesday was addressing how older Americans would fare in retirement. He proposes helping younger workers save for their retirement in federal accounts and protecting programs for older voters who had assumed they would be there after they ended their careers.
Rubio, who previously addressed poverty, higher education and economic growth, is working to build policy credentials ahead of an expected 2016 presidential campaign. The prescriptions come just days after he had a private audience with the Republican National Committee in Memphis, Tennessee, and made his first trip to the early-nominating state of New Hampshire.
