'Dr. Sofa' will tear apart and rebuild your furniture

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

It's moving day. You found the perfect apartment and you fit in your new place but what happens if your furniture doesn't?

Alison and Yuval Eder are still unpacking. They just moved into an apartment in Midtown Manhattan. Moving day hit a hitch when they figured out their large leather couch wasn't going to fit in the front door.

So the couple called Dr. Sofa. That's not really his name, but Shlomi Eini does consider himself a surgeon of sorts and your couch his patient. Dr. Sofa and his team use saws, drills, hammers or whatever tools it takes to delicately pull couches apart.

Once surgery is complete, the couch is reassembled in the owner's living room -- that is also a delicate process

While you can make an appointment in advance, Dr. Sofa also has a dispatch center to send crews to answer emergency calls from frantic movers in a tight bind. Fitting big furniture into small apartments is such a common problem in New York City that Dr. Sofa is celebrating 10 years in his growing business.
