Media Kart Racing Challenge One of Several 600 Festival Events for Public

Posted: Updated:

The 600 Festival Association, an organization which helps promote the NASCAR races in May, has several different events throughout the region, including a Media Challenge to preview the Little 600 Race with NASCAR drivers next week. On Tuesday, media from around the Carolinas participated in a go kart race at the GoPro Motorplex in Mooresville.

Mike Leslie, Anthony Flores and Robin Kanady were part of the My Fox Carolinas team. Flores said, “It was fun.” Leslie added, “Yes. It was a lot of fun. We weren’t very good.”

This year the Media Challenge is one of several new events designed to bring NASCAR to people’s backyards. Unlike in the past when much of the events were focused on Speed Street in Uptown Charlotte, this year The 600 Festival is spreading the events to various locations throughout the region, from Mooresville to Concord to Kannapolis.

Jay Howard, President of the 600 Festival Association, said, “Their mission is to bring racing to the public, for those that aren’t at the speedway yet. It’s an opportunity for the entire community to get a taste of NASCAR.”

There are a few other events remaining in the 600 festival lineup, including “Haulers on Union” in downtown Concord at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 15. More than 40 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series haulers are scheduled to parade down Union Street on their way to the Charlotte Motor Speedway.

The Little 600, which features NASCAR drivers racing karts at the GoPro Motorplex in Mooresville, will be held at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20. Coca-Cola Speed Street, a three-day festival, is the final event May 22-24 in Uptown Charlotte.
