WASHINGTON - They're expecting at The Willard Office Building-- baby ducks, that is!  Three ducks have laid eggs at the downtown D.C. building this spring, and the third mama duck's eggs should hatch later this week.

In mid-April, the first duck, Millie, laid her eggs in a planter in the hotel's Pennsylvania Avenue courtyard. Unfortunately, the wily White House fox was captured on camera devouring every single one.

The next duck, Alice, laid her eggs in a raised planter in the same courtyard. The building's property management wasted no time building a fence around the planter in order to keep the pesky fox at bay.  On Tuesday, Carr Workplaces SVP of Development Phil Carr and Carr Properties Chief Engineer Wes Gilmer happily carted Alice and 12 ducklings to the reflecting pool to swim with their duck friends!

Two weeks ago, a third duck took residence on the 8th floor terrace. Mr. Carr aptly named her Foxy, and they have been avidly watching her since then; providing her with a chafing dish to swim and drink from, discontinuing use of the door next to her nest, blocking off the space around the planter where she sits.

Foxy’s eggs are expected to hatch sometime late this week.
