There are a lot of changes in the fast food world lately and they are all to lure you into buying more burgers!
McDonald's has a new Happy Meal mascot named "Happy" to promote a healthier side of the new menu. Meanwhile, Burger King is changing its slogan after 40 years from "Have it your way" to "Be your way." The company says the new motto is about making a personal lifestyle.
Larry Meador from Evok Advertising said some change is good because it gets people talking about a brand or product and brings it to the top of their mind. However, people develop an affinity to iconic slogans or logos and respond negatively when a company tries to make a change.
He said companies do a lot of testing before they unveil a new slogan or logo. For example, McDonald's has tested "Happy" overseas since 2009.
Meador also said more companies are trying to create emotional ties to a brand rather than a specific product. He said Burger King is trying to get people to think of their burger as part of their lifestyle, as Taco Bell did with its "Live Mas" slogan. "But sometimes a burger is just a burger," Meador said.
