FBI: Watch out for computer virus

You should always remain vigilante when clicking links, but security experts say there is a type of computer virus that's been on the rise recently.

It's known as "ransomware," and it's a type of malware that infects your computer and holds a ransom against you. The virus restricts access to your computer system and demands money for it to be removed.

Most alarmingly, hackers tend to use law enforcement logos to pull it off. There has been an increase of scams using the FBI seal, Assistant Special Agent Nick Savage told FOX 29. Savage said not only is it on the rise, but the ads are convincing.

The person usually receives a notice that law enforcement has locked their computer due to illegal activity. The message then asks for a payment to be made in person or online.

Law enforcement officials are encouraging to be on the lookout for these messages.
