Dayton recaps 'Unsession,' says he'll sign medical marijuana bill soon

ST. PAUL, Minn. (KMSP) -

Gov. Mark Dayton held a conference Tuesday morning to discuss his Unsession, which was designed to eliminate Minnesota's outdated laws and make other legislation easier to understand.

ABSURD LAWS

Dayton commended legislators for changing more than 1,000 outdated laws during the Unsession, including the sale of fruit in an illegally-sized container.

PERMIT REFORM

Before the Unsession, 97 percent of all job-creating business permits are approved by state agencies in less than 150 days. Dayton just signed new legislation reducing those wait times for most businesses to 90 days.

PLAIN LANGUAGE

Dayton signed an executive order directing all state agencies to use commonly-used language, write in clear and concise sentences and present information in a format that is easy-to-understand for Minnesotans.

WHAT’S NEXT

Dayton also said he’ll sign Minnesota’s medical marijuana bill in the next couple of days. He’s “still torn” on signing a bill that bans online lottery sales.

He said he’ll be interested in watching the GOP convention this weekend to see who receives the endorsement to run against him. He said he “had a good story to tell” on his reelection and will spend the summer “actively making that case.”
