City of Atlanta's Office of Entertainment gears up for busy summer

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

Right now there are about seven film and TV productions taking place in the City of Atlanta. For some, that means the inconvenience of street and sidewalk closures around their neighborhood.

The City is working to ease the congestion and keep communities in the loop while bringing Hollywood to Atlanta.

Recently production for "Selma" has been shutting down streets around Marietta. The movie about Martin Luther King Jr. and the Civil Rights marches that changed our country will soon move filming to Downtown Atlanta.

"It's a huge one considering you've got Oprah and Brad Pitt with "Plan B" behind it," says Lorielle Broussard the Marketing and Communications Director with the new Office of Entertainment. "It's an incredible thing for it to be here and for it to be about Martin Luther King and being in Atlanta and Georgia...it's really exciting for the state, for the production and for everyone."

And you can expect the streets to be packed with dozens of TV and film productions all summer long.

"That tax incentive of 30 percent for the state has made a tremendous difference for all the productions from California, from New York to flee down here," adds Broussard "We just created our calendar with all of our notifications and it's insane because it is every day...several productions, not just one, several closures."

Last year, Mayor Kasim Reed helped to create The Office of Entertainment, which works as the go-between for the production companies and the communities affected by filming. "There definitely are a lot of street closures, a lot of lane closures, sidewalk closures...all of that," explains Broussard.

Since December, constant closures and updates are now being posted on their social media accounts.

"We've gotten great feedback via Twitter, via Facebook. People were responding, 'Thank you so much. This has been so great.' Finally we have communication and they know what's going on," she says.

So follow them on Twitter and Instagram (@atlfilment), like them on Facebook (City of Atlanta - Mayor's Office of Entertainment), and don't be surprised to see some famous faces around Atlanta this summer.

"It's going to be a huge summer. We're excited. It's just kicking off, it's the end of May and we have even more productions coming at the end of the summer too," Broussard explains.

Fast and Furious 7 just wrapped filming but, according to Broussard, some of the other productions happening right now are Being Mary Jane, Survivor's Remorse, Satisfaction, Taken 3, Devious Maids and Affairs of the Heart.
