Unified Soccer Championship Kicks Off

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

HUNTING PARK- The Special Olympics 2nd annual Unified Soccer Championship kicked off Friday.

Hundreds of local athletes gathered at Thomas Edison High School.

Many of these athletes will also get the chance to go on to compete next month in the Special Olympics National Games in New Jersey.

It's a competition where every player is a winner.

Dadly Thenor plays goalie for George Washington high school's unified soccer team.

Dadly moved to the United States from Haiti in 2006.

The intellectually disabled 20-year-old had surgery on both legs and needs a walker except when he's tending goal.

Dadly's George Washington high is one of 11 Philadelphia schools competing in this 2nd Annual Unified Soccer Championship.

He is just one of these athletes who will go on to compete in June in New Jersey on the national stage in the Special Olympics USA games.
