Bensalem High School Band Members Selected To Attend Rose Parade

BENSALEM, Pa. -

A quartet of band members from Bucks County has dreams of playing in the Rose Bowl Parade.

Fox 29's Drew Dickman spoke with the band members.

For these four sophomores from Bensalem High School, playing in the band is about much more than music.

“Whenever I play, I feel happy with myself and I’m not afraid to do anything," trombonist Jordan Rowan said.

“I just feel good when I’m playing music because I’ve been playing forever. It’s how I express myself," trombonist Adam Jones said.

So when the 2 trombones, trumpet and clarinet were selected to be a part of the first ever Cavalcade of Bands Association Honor Band, they couldn’t have been more excited.

Their reward, a chance to play on New Year's Day in the Rose Parade in front of millions of viewers.

Enough to make even a seasoned musician nervous.

“Probably a little bit, but I’m going to be in a big marching band, so it’s not going to be that bad," trumpeter David Gerstenfeld said.

It costs $10,000 to cover the trip, but their parents say it isn't in the budget.

Thanks to donations from Just for the Kids and Parx Casino, the musicians have already raised a third of that.

“To be able to have this opportunity and to be able to say that we can try and take it, it would be great to get the money to actually go,” said clarinetist Casey McMullen.

With any luck, they're on the path to Pasadena, marching with music and a new sense of confidence.

“Instead of being this shy person that typically doesn’t talk to many people to being on national TV and broadcasted would help me just to continue to step out of my shell,” said Rowan.
